In light of recent events in the middle east, here is an uplifting song list with tunes about Israel or the Middle East in general. Some of them are not directly aimed at the Middle East but certainly fit. Songs about the insanity of conflict and the need for peaceful resolution.
1 - Give Peace a Chance by John Lennon.
1/tie - This Land is Your Land by Woodie Gutherie... This land is my land... As the lyrics go, it's all our land. Stop destroying it and fighting over it.
2 - Peace Train by Cat Stevens. Any chance?
3 - How Far Jerusalem by Magnum
4 - Wailing Wall by Todd Rundgren
4/tie/ Wailing Wall by The Cure, a completely different song. Still good.
5 - Land of Confusion by Genesis
6 - Israel by Siouxie and the Banshees
7 - Castles Made of Sand by Jimi Hendrix
8 - Promised Land by Toby Mac & Sheryl Crow
9 - Jihad by Slayer, the metal band.
10 - Holy War by Alicia Keys
11 - Give Me Love (Give Peace on Earth) by George Harrison
12 - New Jerusalem by Night Wilds
13 - Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth
14 - Kissing an Arab by The Cure. This is a sensitive one, the original title was killing: Robert Smith of the Cure stresses this song is about not killing anyone. It's based on Albert Camus' novel The Stranger, about reflection on what acts we do.
15 - Walk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles. A light hearted approach from the eighties all-girl band.
16 - We Five Kings by Jethro Tull, along with Living in the Past.
17 - Fight the Good Fight by Triumph, fight against terrorism, not against each other.
18 - No More Heroes by Grace Slick
19 - The Price of Egypt (When You Believe) by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston
20 - Holiday by Green Day. A protest song about politicians and selfish greed and those who wage war for their own selfish ends. It might fit here as a protest against terrorism brought on by greed.
Honorable Mention:
Holy War by Manowar
The Unknown Soldier by The Doors
Sands of Time by Fleetwood Mac
Freedom by Jefferson Airplane. This one is for everyone caught in the middle.
During this conflicting time, we hope no one was offended by this. The list is meant to shed light on songs that might point toward Israel and the Middle East. And most of all... toward peace! An agreement must be reached someday. No harm was intended. Just sayin' : Give peace a chance.
