Purple is the strongest of the colors. It is bold and beautiful and lends an air of mystery. It's not often sung of (compared to other colors) but when it happens... it's gold. Or purple, but hot as gold. Here are the 20 top songs about the color purple that hit the Top 40 charts.
1 - Purple Rain by Prince, the best of the purple songs. Prince was a brilliant songwriter and the colors shone through. Many of his songs features bright hues from Rasberry Beret to Little Red Corvette.
2 - Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix, the psychedelic king of the 60s.
3 - The Purple People Eater by Sheb Wooley, an odd novelty song that also hit the top-20 in 1958. It would be his only big hit.
