We love birds, but in the movies we tend to fear them. More bird related movies are horror than comedy, but there is a mixture of both in our bird list. Funny, scary feathered friends: here are the best bird movies of all time:


1 – The Birds (1963) Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece horror thriller about birds taking over a town.


2 – Surf's Up (2007) excellent animation about Penguins (and a chicken) on a surf spree

3 – The Raven (1963) based on Edgar Allen Poe's tale, starring Vincent Price and Peter Lorre.

4 – Ladyhawke (1985) A beautiful woman becomes a hawk during the day, while her lover becomes a wolf at night. They are cursed to never be in human form together.

5 – Legend of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010) impressive animated effects.



6 – The Crow (1994) Brandon Lee's final film

7 – Rio (2011) animation about a blue Macaw looking for love.

8 – Hoot (2006) A flock of kids tries to save an owl's home from destruction.

9 – The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill (2003) documentary about the wild bird of San Francisco.

10 – Chicken Little (2005) animation about “the sky is falling” and alien invasion themes.

11 – Paulie (1998) The talking parrot we love to hate.

15 – Kaw (2007) an attempt at recreating “The Birds” with crows small taking over a small town.

16 – Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2008) another thriller inspired by Hitchcock. Very low-budget.
