Getting ready to go back to school, you need a movie marathon to kick it off right. Put down your double binder with Justin Bieber stickers and Big Bang Theory quotes (and I "heart" Friday decal), and relax for a movie night. Here are the 20 best "back to school" movies.
2 - The Breakfast Club (1985) One of the best John Hughes movies, starring Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall & Co. about a group of kids going to detention at school. Funny, smart, and insightful.
4 - 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a hilariously sarcastic high school comedy. Larry Miller as the father is a brilliant comedian, with some of the best lines, "You're 18, you don't know what you want. And you won't know what you want 'til you're 45, and even if you get it, you'll be too old to use it." "Hello, Katarina. Make anyone cry today?"
5 - Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and some of the best lines in movie history. The Phoebe Cates swimsuit scene played to The Cars' "Moving in Stereo" is classic.
6 - Napolean Dynamite (2004) Jon Heder helps his friend run for student council president. Destined to become a comedy classic.
7 - The Faculty (1998) Some teachers are just aliens. For real.
8 - My Bodyguard (1980) Chris Makepeace hires a big kid to be his bodyguard at school.
9 - Class (1983) Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy in are classmates in prep school, but one falls in love with the other's mother. Dark comedy drama.
10 - Teachers (1984) Nick Nolte, Judd Hirsch and Ralph Macchio
11 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) Ben Stein has the best line "Bueller,... Bueller..."
12 - High School Musical (2006) Zac Efron
13 - Rock-n-Roll High School (1979) The Ramones help take over a high school to fight against the new administration's rules.
14 - Can't Buy Me Love (1987) An uncool guy buys his way into the cool group at school.
15 - American Pie (1999)
16 - To Sir, with Love (1967) Syndey Poitier
17 - Horror High School (1974) and its sequel "Student Bodies"
18 - Disturbing Behavior (1998) High school kids are being drugged and conditioned by the faculty.
19 - Grease (1978) 25 year-old actors still in high school, but Olivia Newton John looks fine!
20 - Dazed and Confused (1993)
Most unusual classroom movie: Zapped! (1982) starring Scott Baio and Willie Aames. The trailer alone is priceless. A silly teen high school comedy.... we had so many back in the day.
Honorable Mention: Bad Teacher (2011) with Cameron Diaz, a hot teacher in an "OK" school movie.
